George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens (Darwin)

Hully Liveris (Architect), Benjamin Cisterne (Lighting Designer), Sunbuild (Builder), Asburner Francis, Freeman Ryan Design (Photography)

Project Overview

The new facility is part of the Territory Government's $103 million Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package and will breathe new life into the Gardens, attracting more visitors and events to the Top End.

The Visitor and Event Centre concept was designed by local architect Hully Liveris and has incorporated the use of local materials like Darwin Stringy Bark. The Centre is home to some amazing art and sculptures from the Local Artists thus creating the need for exceptional gallery lighting to be employed.

Lighting Designer, Benjamin Cisterne utilised LJUS Arty Par and LJUS Arty Profile Zoom with interchangeable lenses and in-built dimming controls that enhanced each artwork by presenting them in the best possible light.

Images supplied by Freeman Ryan Design (FRD) who worked with a local Larrakia ethnobotanist and artists to design two of the highlights of the exhibition: an interpretation of the Larrakia Seasonal Calendar and commissioned weavings by the Larrakia artists.
